Fricassee of Chicken

two 2 1/2 - 3 pound fryers
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 pound of butter or margarine
2 medium onions, finely chopped
4 ripe tomatoes
2 teaspoons of paprika
3 cups of thin crumbs
1/8 teaspoon of soda

Cut the chickens in serving pieces and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Melt the butter in a large frying pan or Dutch. Add the onions and place the chicken over onions. Cover. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Peel and chop the tomatoes and add to the chicken mixture. Add the paprika and stir lightly. Cook for 10 minutes. Mix the cream with soda and pour over chicken mixture. Cover and cook for 35 minutes or until chicken is tender. Remove chicken to platter. Strain the sauce and pour over the chicken. 6 -8 servings
