3 cups of flour 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda 1 1/2 teaspoons of cream of tarter 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar, firmly packed 1/2 cup of sugar 1/2 cup of lard or shortening 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla 1 cup of chopped nuts
Sift the flour with salt, soda and cream of tarter. Set aside. Cream the sugars and shortening, add eggs. Gradually add dry ingredients, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla and nuts, mixture will be stiff. Form into several rolls and wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate overnight. Slice 1/2 thick and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake in a 350ºF. oven for 10 minutes or until light brown around the edges.
