| AUSTRIAN CHOCOLATE BALLS
2 ounces of (2 sq.) unsweetened chocolate 1/3 cup of butter or oleo 1 egg plus 1 yolk 1 1/3 cup of flour 1 cup of sugar 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla or almond extract 1/2 cup of finely chopped nuts |

Melt together the chocolate and butter in medium saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat. Stir in the sugar, eggs and extract into chocolate mixture; blend well. Sift the flour. Gradually stir in flour and nuts until well blended. Shape the dough in 3/4 inch balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheets about 1 inch apart. Bake at 350ºF. for 8-12 minutes until firm to touch. Do not over bake. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Cool and frost.
FROSTING:
In same saucepan, melt: 1 tablespoon of butter Remove from the heat. Add: 1 cup of powdered sugar 2-3 tablespoons of milk. Blend well. Dip the tops of cookies into frosting to cover. Allow to dry completely before storing cookies tightly covered with wax paper between the layers of cookies. Yield: 4 dozen cookies. |
